About

About the ministry:

Calvary Chapel of Split ~ We meet on Sundays to study the Word of God, worship our King, and have fellowship together in Him.  Men’s and Women’s Bible studies also take place during the week.  On Sundays, we worship in Croatian and the message is translated into Croatian.   Visit www.ccofsplit.com for more info.

Global Cafe ~ Global Cafe was established seven years ago by another ministry, and was turned over to Calvary Chapel of Split in 2008 to operate.  We’re located less than a block from several high school, middle school, and college campuses, so the majority of our customers are high school students.  Two of the high schools emphasize foreign languages, so the students speak excellent English, which is great for us to be able to get to know them and share the Gospel with them.  The cafe is actually an udruga, like a club, so we also have extra club events and outreaches, like open mic nights, parties, etc.  The cafe allows us to build long-term relationships with the locals in a natural setting, as Croatia is a “cafe culture.”  We have opportunities to share the Gospel and be witnesses for Jesus nearly every day, and follow up with those we’ve shared with!

Language ~ God has opened the doors for us to have a weekly after-school English Club at a local middle school, Pujanke School.  We play games, speak and write in English, and have a great time.  In addition, we do week-long English Camps during the summers.  I am also currently doing private tutoring for a college student.  In all of these activities, we look to share Jesus’ love with the students!

About Split:

The second-largest city in Croatia, Split is a bustling metropolis with about 420,000 residents.  It is one of the major ports on the Dalmatian Coast and contains the main airport for the region.  Although it is influenced by the Slavic regions to the north and east, the city is also flavored by the Mediterranean lifestyle, where one of the favored activities is spending hours a day at a sidewalk café, chatting with one’s friends and acquaintances – great for building relationships with people and being able to share Jesus with them!

Despite the colorful and  seemingly carefree lifestyle that Dalmatians live, there is a darker side to the region.   Croatia, along with the rest of the region, has a long and bitter history, including the destructiveness of a failed communist regime, genocide, civil wars, and families torn apart from war.  The hatred for their enemies is strong and poisonous, leading to violent tempers and deep, festering wounds in their hearts.

Few have a personal, saving faith in Jesus, trusting instead in the Catholic Church to save them, yet never experiencing the assurance of salvation and God’s unending love that I have.  It is estimated that there are approximately 300 born-again Christians in fellowship in Split.  Few of the Christian churches  teach verse-by-verse through the Bible, and the churches have been plagued by division in the past.  The hope of the Gospel and the love of God is desperately needed to bring salvation and healing to these precious people!
