Thumbing through the pages of the New Testament we see that World Missions was of vital importance to the early church.  Reaching out to the local community, the villages down the road, or even all the way over to Spain was in the vision of the Body of Christ. The new believers in Biblical times healed the treasure of Salvation with such value that they were compelled to preach the Gospel. The writers of the New Testament use such powerful words describing their need to preach the gospel. Paul while writing to the Romans says, “I am eager to preach the gospel…” (Rom 1:15a). Later in the book of Romans he goes on to say, “Thus I make it my ambition to preach the gospel…” (Rom 15:201). Lastly, in 1 Corinthians 9:16 we see Paul exclaim, “For if I preach the gospel, that gives me no ground for boasting. For necessity is laid upon me. Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!” What powerful conviction’ ‘eager, ambition, necessity… woe to me if do not preach the gospel!’ Sad to say these are not words that could be applied to many of the churches of 21st century. However, SGWM desires to see a passion for evangelism and world missions torrent through the Church in Biblical proportions.

Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest’”. (Matt 9:36-37).

This is what Jesus asks us to do:

Pray Earnestly

First, Jesus asks us to pray that God would send out more laborers. Prayer is the backbone in the battle for lost souls. Prayer is where the sending starts. Missionaries around the world need you to pray. Send

The calling to be a missionary is not an easy one. Often Missionaries are leaving good jobs, selling their homes, and all their possessions to move to a foreign land. They need a solid backing of people at home to send them to the harvest. Not all are called to be ‘sent out’ but we are all called to be ‘laborers’. Do you believe God is calling you to Go? Or is He calling you to stay? These two options are both callings that need to be prayed through with great conviction, because all born again Christians fall under one of these two callings.

There are many different aspects of sending a missionary. One opportunity to ‘labor’ is in the area of administration. For example, helping missionaries file taxes, managing bank accounts, send update letters and much more. Another opportunity to ‘labor’ would be the financial needs. For example, most missionaries cannot work in the countries they serve in; thus providing a huge need for faithful supporters backing them and the ministry where they ‘labor’. Do you know a missionary that God has ‘called’ to go? Get behind them financially. If you don’t know a missionary personally but still want to support a missionary, please prayerfully look through all the SGWM Missionaries and see where God would have you invest His money.

Become a Laborer
